Page three takes the patient reader from the cheerful chum’s picnic to the off-limits industrial zone on the west end of town—an abrupt shift in tone and scenery. There may even be a dash of foreshadowing tucked in for good measure.

Continuity alert! Sharp-eyed readers will notice: in the first panel, Dean should be missing his ring finger.
